The Haymount Charolais herd was established 1990, with the purchase of a heifer from the Friarton herd, at Perth and with another heifer Sunnyside Debbie purchased privately from Messes McDowell Sunnyside Herd Leicestershire, at the suggestion of the late Ian McDonald, Baggrave.

Embryo Transfer was used with Sunnyside Debbie to accelerate herd growth and Semen from top bulls in the breed was used with some success. In February 1996 at Perth, Haymount Jetstream by Barbican Lancer and out Haymount Harmony (a Sunnyside Debbie daughter) topped the sale at 11,000gns.selling, to Thrunton. 
Haymount topped the sale averages at 6,400gns for our string of Bulls.
At the same sale Rasmoor Jeffrey was purchased with the Heiton herd for 8,400gns. He displayed tremendous conformation which he left in his sons, the best being Haymount Officer selling to Messes I.Goldie,Firth herd for 5,800gns.at Carlisle, May 2000.
Our cowherd development was taken forward in October 1997 with the purchase of Maerdy Location Sire- Maerdy Forum, Dam- Clavering Uta, for 20,000gns with Thrunton. He left massive power and length in his cows - great legs with real bone and hock. Location sired best three bulls by one sire in February 1999, sons sold at 6,500gns twice. His EBV puts him in the top 10% of the breed.
Maerdy Nero was also purchased with Thrunton in October 1998 for8,000gns. by Grimaldi, his sons are starting to come on stream now. His first was in Perth February 2001 and sold for 3,000gns. More to come!!!
Maerdy Prime Minister, Supreme Champion and top price bull at Perth February 2001 was purchased for 28,000gns.Shared with Mssrs T. Nesbitt and Sons, Alwent and sired again by Grimaldi,
who is now a multi Perth Supreme Champion sire. He is out of Maerdy Hostess - who has now bred three sons out into pedigree herds for a total of 40,000gns. Hostess’s dam was the admired Patersons Penelope. Strong dam lines are sought after in stock sires for Haymount.
